I can imagine why - the database layout gpe-calendar uses changed lately.

Exactly, there were several changes in the database to support new features and
make it more efficient.

I'm not sure if Martin managed to take a look and update gpesyncd already, but
it would be alwys a good idea to try latest sources from SVN.
