Additional verification. I have since switched from iCalX to my own private
WebDAV server, using the instructions found at
http://www.gregwestin.com/webdav_for_ical.php, with "basic" authentication
rather than digest (it appears that GPE Calendar can't understand digest
authentication -- ergh!).

Anyway, using this new server I have republished a calendar from iCal and once
again GPE Calendar, on subscribing to that calendar, says:

"Error updating calendar robo1: invalid format for type "DURATION" in attribute
DURATION

According to this discussion...
     http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3503&page=5

... other people are finding this problem, and furthermore, it appears that
Apple's duration tag is within spec. GPE's just not parsing properly. Given
how many people use iCal, I'm recommending increasing the importance of this
bug.
