Well you will be able to pick it up quite easily. It is not so difficult and
the GTK manuals are quite good. An handy tool is also devhelp with the GTK/GDK
and Glib references.

Quite ambitous to start with, but maybe that is good :)

The anonymous http has worked for me without issues in the past. Did you
manage to get the sources by now? Otherwise we can always try to make a
tarball for you. Also a number of GPE apps are also available in debian/ubuntu
if you would like to play with them.
So please send us patches etc, we will try to commit them asap and if needed
and useful we will probably give you access to the svn.
Also drop by in the #gpe-project irc channel on freenode if you can. It is a
bit quiet there atm, but at reasonable EU times (as most active devs live in
Europe atm) there probably will be somebody to answer you.
