If the purpose is to allow alarms to sound etc. then on Maemo it'd be better to
use the alarm framework for that, and shut gpe-calendar down completely when
not in use. More details here:

Yes right, we should do this as soon as possible. Any help here is welcome
since Neal who worked on gpe-calendar does not use his 770 any more and my time
is limited...

This bug is also present in OS 2008 version of gpe-calendar. It seems that the
data is reloaded every time a view is changed. Would it be possible to keep the
data in cache and reload it only if the database file's modification date has
changed? I downloaded the source, to have a look myself, but it is too
complicated as I'm not proficient in C.

Subject: [Gpe-bugs] [Bug 142] New: Strange behaviour when creating
event
To: gpe-bugs at linuxtogo.org
Message-ID: <bug-142-7 at http.bugs.linuxtogo.org/>

Summary: Strange behaviour when creating event
Product: gpe-calendar
Version: 0.91
Platform: Nokia 770
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P4
Component: default
AssignedTo: gpe-bugs at linuxtogo.org
ReportedBy: jarmo.lahtiranta at iki.fi
Estimated Hours: 0.0
Empty Details-tab:
1. Click calendar for new event.
2. Click Details tab.
3. It is empty. Expected behaviour is that it should show the details of the
event.
Expanding dialog:
1. Click calendar for new event.
2. Click Summary field to enable stylus keyboard.
3. Click Details-tab.
4. The dialog now starts from the left border of the calendar and take almost
the whole width of the window. However the details are now visible. Expected
behaviour is a dialog that doesn't expand.
There is some variation. When editing an existing contact, the details are some
times visible, and the dialog doesn't ever expand. Sometimes the dialog expands
when starting to write a new Summary for a new event.
I'm using N800 with OS 2008 and stock GPE (2.8+maemo+svn20071118-1).
