Probably a long shot, but if GPE was a project last year (I don't recall 
and haven't had a chance to check) they might buckle if you email an app 
in.  Otherwise, if Maemo went for it again (hard to tell from email list 
- a fair amount of maemo stuff seems concealed to me) that might be a 
way to get students, at least to work on the Maemo ports of the 
applications.
