WebOS to be licensed?

According to an interview given by Leo Apotheker, CEO of HP, WebOS might be licensed to other phone makers:

This could (hopefully) bring some (new) life to WebOS...

I would personally like to see that. Currently WebOS is the only real Linux based OS alternative - MeeGo is out (will most likely only be seriously spread for tablets and car infotainment), Maemo5 is EOL anyway, LiMo is still not en-par with anything and real free open source based alternatives still do not seem to get any market chance (which is a pity). And only having Android could lead into a very dangerous monopoly situaton...
